Welcome to Ed O'Rourke Dot Net

I'm an aspiring Web Designer/Developer and occasional commercial actor. I graduated from DePaul University and the College of Computing and Digital Media in June of 2011, after attending classes on evenings and weekends since 2005. My degree is a BA in Interactive Media Design and Development. Initially, a lot of what I did was in Flash and Actionscript 3.0, as well as HTML and CSS. Recently, I've been concentrating more on Javascript, as well as PHP and MySQL. I had classes in all these disciplines in school, but I'm compounding my knowledge through independent research and practice and practice. (And practice). I've also begun to explore HTML5 and CSS3, and to a lesser extent, .Net and C#. I have a subscription to Lynda.com, which I use on a daily basis.

One of the most important aspects of education focused on at DePaul's School for New Learning is Self-Directed Learning. The lessons learned outside the classroom hold as much, if not more, significance than those learned inside the classroom. This approach requires a very proactive plan of attack by the student when it comes to research, learning, and producing results. Although most of my technical classes were across the street at CDM, the SNL mindset has become the perfect fit for a person to stay relevant in a world of constantly evolving technologies.

This site contains links to some of the work I've done for classes, and some independent projects since graduating. I'd like to invite you to also browse my resume, and feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions. I'm looking for an entry-level position, and I know what to expect as far as salary, considering my level of experience and the current state of the job market. I would also consider a paid internship. As my skills begin to take shape, I'm absolutely confident my experience in the corporate world, solid work ethic, and ambition will combine to produce someone you'd find absolutely invaluable on your team.
